About The Project
This project marked the second Geddes kitchen for these returning clients, following their move to a new home. With an open-plan layout combining kitchen, living, and dining areas, the brief was to create a space that not only functioned beautifully but also felt seamlessly integrated across all zones. To achieve this, our craftsmen designed and built a bespoke booth, table area, and fireplace, ensuring a cohesive flow throughout the heart of the home.
The Design Concept
The design revolved around balance and contrast. We introduced soft taupe cabinetry fronts, chosen for their warmth and timeless appeal, and framed them in a striking deep black to bring definition and modern elegance. This interplay between subtle neutrals and bold accents gave the kitchen a dynamic yet sophisticated edge. Matt black taps and carefully selected lighting were incorporated to create continuity between the kitchen and the adjoining utility space, providing stylish highlights without overpowering the softer tones. The bespoke booth and table were designed to encourage connection, anchoring the dining area as a comfortable, social hub, while the fireplace acted as a unifying focal point across the open-plan setting.
The Result
The finished design delivers a harmonious blend of practicality, comfort, and contemporary style. The interplay of taupe and black establishes a modern aesthetic that feels both welcoming and refined. The bespoke furniture elements, handcrafted by our team, enhance the sense of cohesion across the multifunctional space, while the carefully considered detailing – from matt black hardware to atmospheric lighting – ensures a polished, luxurious finish. This project not only met the clients’ expectations but also reinforced the versatility of Geddes design in crafting spaces that adapt to modern living while maintaining individuality and charm.
The Details
The utility room and lounge areas in this project were designed with the same meticulous craftsmanship as the kitchen, ensuring continuity throughout the home. The utility space was designed for practicality and elegance, with soft taupe cabinetry concealing integrated storage while housing laundry appliances in a seamless, flush arrangement. Clean lines and modern hardware maintain the sleek aesthetic, while clever layout planning ensures maximum efficiency for daily tasks. In the lounge area, the striking media wall becomes the focal point, clad in dramatic bookmatched stone with bold veining that frames the built-in electric fire and television. This feature delivers both warmth and sophistication, complemented by bespoke cabinetry that blends effortlessly into the scheme. Together, the utility and media wall showcase a balance of functional design and contemporary luxury, tying the kitchen, living, and utility spaces into one cohesive environment.
