About The Project
Seven apartments within a converted townhouse development in Glasgow’s fashionable West End required a high-specification kitchen, each individually created to complement the unique features of the property. To ensure consistency of quality, all kitchens were centred around Poggenpohl furniture, Corian worktops, Siemens appliances and Quooker boiling water systems. However, each space was designed to respond to its own architectural character – from ornate fireplaces to natural light levels and individual room proportions – creating kitchens that were both cohesive and distinctive.
The Design Concept
The design intent was to harmonise modern functionality with the period elegance of the townhouse building. Clean-lined Poggenpohl cabinetry was paired with sleek Corian worktops, providing a refined yet durable surface. Integrated Siemens appliances offered premium cooking performance, while the inclusion of Quooker boiling water taps introduced a cutting-edge convenience. Colour palettes were selected to suit each apartment’s interior – muted greys, warm neutrals and subtle timber accents worked to highlight features such as tall sash windows and decorative fireplaces. Island units were designed as central features, combining working preparation zones with sociable gathering areas, illuminated with discreet modern lighting.
The Result
The result was a collection of kitchens that balanced consistency with individuality. Each apartment was equipped with a timeless, high-quality Poggenpohl kitchen, while the personalisation of colours, layouts and detailing gave every property its own identity. The juxtaposition of sleek modern surfaces with original townhouse features created a striking design narrative, blending the heritage of Glasgow’s West End with contemporary living. These kitchens not only provided the functionality expected in luxury homes but also enhanced the character and value of each apartment within the development.
The Details
This kitchen design balances precision, functionality, and understated elegance. At its core, Poggenpohl cabinetry delivers a sleek, modern aesthetic with seamless storage solutions, finished in muted tones that complement the natural light flooding into the space. A striking Corian worktop defines the island, enhanced by subtle integrated lighting that adds both warmth and atmosphere. The Siemens appliances, including built-in ovens and an innovative induction hob with downdraft extractor, blend effortlessly into the cabinetry for a streamlined appearance. A Quooker boiling water tap, set against a rich wood backdrop, introduces both convenience and a tactile contrast of materials. Together, these elements create a kitchen that feels luxurious yet practical, perfectly attuned to the apartment’s character while maintaining a high level of specification.
