About The Project

This project centred on the full renovation of a period property for a young family, reimagining the ground floor to better suit modern living. By reworking the layout and removing internal walls, the design introduces a bright, open-plan flow while carefully preserving the character and charm of the original home.

The brief was to create a cohesive, functional living environment that connects the kitchen, utility, bootroom, and TV room—balancing everyday practicality with a calm, timeless aesthetic. Each space was designed to feel considered and connected, supporting the rhythm of busy family life.

The Design Concept

The design embraces a soft, neutral palette, combining warm whites, natural wood tones, and subtle textures to create a light and welcoming atmosphere. Classic cabinetry nods to the home’s heritage, while clean lines and refined detailing introduce a contemporary edge.

At the heart of the home, the kitchen is centred around a generous island, designed for cooking, gathering, and socialising. Bespoke joinery maximises storage while maintaining a clean, uncluttered look, and carefully selected lighting enhances both function and ambience.

The kitchen flows seamlessly into the adjoining spaces. A practical utility room and bootroom provide essential storage and organisation for family life, while the TV room offers a more relaxed, comfortable setting—visually connected through a consistent material palette and design language.

The Result

The finished home is a beautifully balanced blend of old and new. The reconfigured layout has transformed the ground floor into a light-filled, sociable space that works effortlessly for modern family living.

Original character has been thoughtfully retained, while the updated design brings clarity, comfort, and cohesion to every room.

The kitchen now serves as the true heart of the home, with each adjoining space supporting both functionality and a sense of calm, understated elegance.

The Details

Handmade cream zellige-style tiles, brushed brass tapware and warm oak flooring bring texture and softness to the space, while classic panelled cabinetry and traditional cornicing nod to the home’s original character. Together, these details strike a calm, timeless balance between period charm and everyday practicality.
