About The Project
Set within a beautifully restored 1940s villa, this kitchen was designed with a young family in mind. The clients wanted a space that balanced modern functionality with a sense of warmth and character, while making the most of the home’s natural light and generous garden views. The brief called for a kitchen that would be as practical for everyday family living as it would be for entertaining, with a strong connection to the outdoors.
The Design Concept
The design draws inspiration from nature, using a palette of soft wood tones, warm neutrals, and natural textures to create a sense of calm and comfort. Large bi-fold doors and skylights flood the kitchen and dining area with light, blurring the boundaries between indoors and out. A bespoke island anchors the space, providing a central hub for cooking, casual dining, and socialising.
Practicality was equally important. A hidden breakfast pantry ensures everyday essentials are accessible yet kept neatly out of sight, while generous storage allows the kitchen to remain clutter-free. The choice of concrete worktops introduces a contemporary, tactile finish, offset by sleek black accents and softened by the natural warmth of timber.
The Result
The finished kitchen achieves the perfect balance of style and substance. It is a space that feels both contemporary and timeless, blending functionality with natural beauty. Bright and open yet warm and welcoming, it serves as the heart of the home for this young family – where meals are prepared, stories are shared, and the boundary between house and garden disappears.
The Details
This kitchen combines elegance with everyday practicality through carefully considered design details. A hidden breakfast pantry and coffee station, complete with internal lighting and integrated sockets, keeps morning essentials neatly organised yet easily accessible. The shaker-style cabinetry, finished in soft neutral tones, is complemented by brushed brass handles and a warm timber-lined interior, adding both refinement and warmth. The large island, with its pale worktop and subtle wood-grain panels, serves as both a preparation space and a family gathering point, enhanced by feature lighting above. Together, these elements create a kitchen that is as beautiful as it is functional, perfectly balancing modern convenience with timeless character.
“Working with Joanna, Michael, and the Geddes team was a joy. Their creativity, skill, and professionalism transformed our kitchen, utility, and pantry into a warm, inviting space. Every stage was handled with care and excellence, and their post-fit service was outstanding. They truly brought joy back into our project.”
