About The Project
Having collaborated with these clients on their kitchen project some years ago, we were delighted when they returned to us with a bold new brief — to create a bespoke bar for their basement. Their vision was clear: fun, arcade-style, pop art vibrancy. They wanted a space that captured energy, creativity and colour, while doubling as a playful social hub for family and friends.
The Design Concept
From the outset, our approach was to embrace maximalism. Using (almost) every colour available, we combined bold finishes with statement textures to achieve a truly dynamic aesthetic. The bar design drew inspiration from retro arcade culture, neon pop art and immersive night-time venues.
Key elements of the design included:
- Textured purple wall panels providing a rich, tactile backdrop that enhances the neon lighting.
- Multi-coloured ceiling wallpaper, adding depth and energy to the room while reinforcing the pop art brief.
- Green-veined XTONE worktop, a dramatic focal point for the bar counter.
- Tinted blue mirrored bar back, amplifying the sense of vibrancy and reflecting light to extend the space.
- LED strip lighting and neon artwork, to create a playful glow and highlight the arcade-inspired theme.
To balance this eclectic palette, we paired bold decorative choices with high-quality materials such as XTONE, Silestone and Orac, ensuring durability and luxury remained at the core of the installation.
The Result
The finished bar is a breathtakingly vibrant environment — part arcade, part lounge, part art installation. With its striking mix of colour, texture and light, the space has been transformed into a hub of entertainment and creativity. Arcade machines, pinball games and bold custom seating reinforce the playful aesthetic, while the bar area itself provides a sophisticated setting for entertaining.
Most importantly, the bar captures the spirit of the clients’ brief: a one-of-a-kind, energised venue where they can relax, have fun, and spend many joyful hours. This project demonstrates how design can push boundaries while still maintaining cohesion and function, creating a unique and unforgettable interior.
The Details
The basement bar is designed as a playful, arcade-inspired retreat, filled with energy and vibrancy. Details such as neon signage, arcade stools upholstered in retro Pac-Man themed fabric, and bold wall art with layered graffiti-style typography bring a pop-art edge to the space. The colourful, multi-patterned ceiling enhances the lively atmosphere, while textured wall panels in rich purple add depth and tactility. Every surface and feature is carefully considered to contribute to the playful aesthetic, ensuring the bar is not only a functional space for entertaining but also an immersive experience that celebrates fun, creativity, and individuality.
